Thomas Rhett was heartbroken to cancel a recent show in San Diego, California, as part of his Bring The Bar To You Tour. The father of four shared an update on social media, only hours before he was scheduled to take the stage.
“Hey San Diego, It breaks my heart to say this but unfortunately I am not able to sing tonight due to vocal irritation and swelling and we are having to cancel the show at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre,” Rhett wrote. “I am so sorry this announcement is so close to show time. For those of you who have already traveled to the show I sincerely apologize. We’ve been working all day to try and make the show happen, but it’s just not going to be possible and have been advised not to perform this evening. Everyone will be offered a refund at point of purchase. I love you, Home Team and hate that we are unable to play for you tonight.”

Rhett is enjoying his Bring The Bar To You Tour so much that he decided to extend it into 2023. The “Half of Me” singer will head to Canada in January for a series of shows, with Jordan Davis and Kameron Marlowe serving as Rhett’s opening acts for the new shows.
“It’s been an absolute blast being back out on the road this summer and we are so excited to take the tour to Canada next year,” Rhett said. “It feels like forever since we were last able to play for those fans. They always bring an insane amount of energy and we cannot wait to get up there and see them again.”
Rhett is of course disappointed to have to cancel a show, something he rarely does, but he overall is the happiest he has ever been in his career.
“I thought that if I could just write a better song, or if I could play a better show, that I would be able to do it at a high level,” Rhett told BMLG, recalling the early years of his career. “And the anxiety and the wonder of, ‘Is this record gonna do well? Where’s my song at on the chart? How many streams do we have?’ I feel like I did that for like five years, and it was exhausting.”
“Not that I don’t care about those things today,” he continued. “I just started to let go of control and create, and I’m just in a lot happier, more content headspace. But I think that’s the reason we can’t go tell ourselves those things, is because I think we have to experience them to get to where we are today.”
Rhett’s next scheduled concert date is not until September 8 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Keep track of tour updates here.
