Thomas Rhett Is Open to Having More Children: ‘It’s Not Out of the Question’

Thomas Rhett and his wife, Lauren Akins, are already the proud parents of four children. The couple adopted Willa Gray in 2017, followed by Ada James, born a few months later, Lennon Love born in 2020 and Lillie Carolina, who arrived in 2021.

While his family already keeps him busy, Rhett hints that he and Akins haven’t ruled out having more children in the future.

“I think we go back and forth because I’ve heard a lot of people older than me say so many times like, ‘I wish I’d had more kids,'” Rhett says. “Or you never hear somebody in their 60s be like, ‘I wish I’d had less kids.’ No one ever says that. And so, I think for me and Lauren we’re trying to figure out, although it would be hard now to add another one or two more or whatever, but I know that time will go by so fast and at some point there could be five or six children sitting at our Thanksgiving table.

“So, it’s not out of the question,” he adds. “I think we’re trying to figure out when, and do we want to try biological, do we want to adopt again? I think those are questions that we’re kind of dealing with.”

Rhett and Akins are gearing up to have a busy Christmas. The 34-year-old reveals that their extended families descend on their Nashville home to celebrate the holidays.

“It’s insane,” Rhett admits. “I mean, it genuinely is. And the more that our siblings have kids too — We have four, Lauren’s sister has two, my sister just had her second, my dad has a son. There are like 12 kids at my house, including 17 adults. So, what we try to do, Lauren loves for everybody to spend the night in the same place. And I think our family’s like, ‘Why do we have to spend the night?’ ‘Cause Lauren wants to watch Christmas movies until 12:00 at night, so we can all do Santa Claus together, and the kids wake up and do the thing. And so, we have about 20-something people spend the night at our house. People are sleeping on the floor, air mattresses, the whole nine [yards].”

It might be chaotic, but also worth it for Rhett, just for the experience of having everyone together on Christmas morning.

“It’s really awesome when you get to wake up, and my mom makes homemade cinnamon rolls, and Lauren’s grandmother will make cheese grits, and I’ll do bacon and sausage,” Rhett says. “Everybody’s just kind of doing the Christmas morning all together, and opening presents takes us an eternity. But it is always really special because we’re really tight with our family and we love to do all the holidays as one giant chaotic unit.”

Rhett will embark on his 2025 Better in Boots Tour, kicking off on June 5 in Rogers, Arkansas. Tucker Westmore will serve as direct support on all dates, with Dasha and The Castellows each joining him on select dates as well. Find all of Rhett’s music and upcoming shows at ThomasRhett.com.
