Thomas Rhett might have to scale down his annual July 4th plans, because of the coronavirus pandemic, but he still plans on celebrating the patriotic holiday. The singer and his wife, Lauren Akins, won’t have the big gathering that they usually have, but he promises their three daughters Willa Gray, Ada James and Lennon Love, will still have some kind of party.
“My girls love to put red, white and blue face paint on,” Thomas told his record label. “Lauren usually puts them in, like, an American flag ballerina outfit, and they love watching fireworks. They love grilling hot dogs and making s’mores, and we usually do it out at our farm with like 150 people. But this year it probably is gonna look like we’re gonna have a few less people hanging out with us, but we do love to hang at Fourth of July and love getting to just celebrate that good American tradition.”
With three small girls in their home, life is rarely quiet, but Thomas wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I think me and Lauren have learned that our life is chaos right now, and it’s just a season,” Thomas told CMT‘s Cody Alan, calling his home a “chaotic mess.” “But, it’s been really cool being home with them. I mean, right now, I would be getting ready to get on a bus to go play our first show, which is really sad that we aren’t doing that. At the same time, I get to be home with my girls and get to watch them grow and get to watch them do things for the first time that I would have missed.”
Thomas postponed his Center Point Road Tour until 2021. While he is disappointed to not be on the road, and with his fans, he has found one unexpected perk of so much time at home.
“During quarantine, I mean it’s been 60 something days, I’d probably say I’ve written 35 to 40 songs,” Thomas revealed. “I just feel like any kind of change in life can spark a new idea, and especially the same for your co-writers, because they’re going through the same stuff too So, there’s definitely no shortage of ideas during this time and I do feel very creative.”
