Thomas Rhett Offers An Update After Injuring His Ankle

Thomas Rhett is giving an update on his recent injury. After revealing on social media that he had hurt his ankle while getting ready to jump on stage and perform with Forrest Frank, the father of four says he is, thankfully, on the mend.

“I just wanted to hop on here first of all and say thank you for all of the advice on ankle stuff, and for all your prayers,” Rhett says. “Much appreciated. I’ve sprained my ankle a million times playing sports and stuff, but I’ve never felt it like that the other night. Just missed a step. Welcome to 35, I guess, is the new motto. Just got an X-ray, and thank the Lord nothing is broken. But I’ve heard a lot of people say that sometimes you’d rather it be broken rather than a bad sprain. So I think it’s just a pretty gnarly sprain, and I’m gonna start rehabbing like a daggum college athlete.

“But I just wanted to hop on here and give you all an update, ’cause it’s a lot of things scrolling on the internet, and I just wanted to clarify some stuff,” he continues. “Just a really, really bad sprain, and I can’t put weight on it yet, but we’re getting there, baby. And I just wanted to say thank you all for caring about me. It means a lot. See you all very soon.”

Rhett will hopefully be better by the time he kicks off his Better in Boots Tour on June 5. The tour includes a performance at Boston’s Fenway Park, a dream come true for Rhett.

“Ever since I was 21 I have always dreamed of headlining a baseball stadium,” Rhett says. “I remember way early in my career playing shows in Boston. House of Blues, TD Garden, Gillette with Kenney Chesney, Fenway with Jason Aldean. You get the picture. Boston has always been sooo good to us. To be transparent.. we were planning on playing Fenway in 2020 and we all know how that panned out haha! So, since then my team and I have been working really hard to figure out when was the best time.

“Not gonna lie it’s kind of terrifying jumping from an arena or amphitheater to a baseball stadium, but YOLO!! ” he adds. “I have never been more excited about something in my career as much as I am about this.”

Rhett currently has a Top 25 hit with “After All The Bars Are Closed.” The song, from Rhett’s latest About A Woman album, was written by Rhett, along with Julian Bunetta, John Byron, Jaxson Free and Jacob Kasher Hindlin.

The song, like all of the tracks on About A Woman, is in some way about Rhett’s wife, Lauren Akins

“Anytime I write a song, whether it’s [about] heartbreak, love — whatever — I’m either looking at my present day with my wife, or I’m kind of looking back into when we first started dating,” Rhett explains to Billboard. The sound is unique to Rhett, and likely why fans are resonating with the uptempo track.

“It’s sneaky because the music is very ‘now’-sounding, but there’s something about the way that that song sort of teleports you, and it makes you feel nostalgic,” Rhett says. “It makes you feel kind of like you want to dance, but also just kind of like you want to be with the person that you love. It doesn’t happen very often where a song checks all those boxes.”
