Thomas Rhett has never been shy about his adoration for his wife, Lauren Akins. The “Be a Light” singer is praising the mother of three again, this time for her role as a nurse, especially when they travel to Uganda.
“My wife is obviously my hero, no doubt,” Thomas told CMT’s Cody Alan. “We started dating when she was in college at UT [University of Tennessee]. I remember going to UT on the weekends, and just watching her cram her brain full of knowledge that was over my head. Watching her take the NCLEX, and all those tests you have to pass to become a nurse. Due to my schedule and my career, she never got to actually work in a hospital.”
It wasn’t until the couple started traveling to Uganda, as part of their work with Love One International, that Thomas got to see his wife use all of her medical knowledge.
“I got to watch my wife put her nursing degree into action,” Thomas recounted. “It was just amazing to watch how caring a nurse is, how much knowledge they have –– all the stuff that they know, how to fix people, that was just over my head. Knowing a nurse firsthand, and getting to watch –– around the country, getting to watch hospital workers, doctors, surgeons, to grocery store workers, to people that are working in drive-thrus or wherever, it’s just been amazing to watch the need that we have for nurses during this time.
“There’s gotta be somebody to do it, and they’ve put so much work and effort into getting those skills together and preparing for a time like this, that you never in a million years thought would happen,” he continued. “Cheers to them and thank you to everybody so much who is busting their butt on the frontline to help us get through this cray pandemic.”
This isn’t the first time Thomas has used the word “hero” to describe Lauren. Recently he posted a photo of her, holding their 3-month-old daughter, Lennon Love, while she was covered in spit-up.
