It’s a disappointing day for Thompson Square, and their fans. The husband-and-wife duo, made up of Keifer and Shawna Thompson, announce that they are postponing several upcoming shows, due to Shawna’s need for back surgery, following a recent injury.
“We’re disappointed to have to postpone some of the dates we have coming up, as we were really looking forward to connecting with fans again post-pandemic,” Keifer says. “That said, health is always the priority, and per doctor’s orders, Shawna will have to sit some dates out. We’re looking forward to her successful recovery, and being able to hit the road again soon.”
The news comes as Thompson Square was enjoying performing new music in front of their fans, including their latest, high-energy new single, “Country In My Soul.” The song was written by Lainey Wilson, Daniel Ross and James McNair.
“The lyrics just hit me as soon as I heard it,” Shawna told People of “Country In My Soul.” “I’m from south Alabama and I grew up in the country and it just took me right back to my childhood listening to it.”
“Country In My Soul” marks Thompson Square’s first radio release since their 2019 single, “Masterpiece,” which was the title track of the pair’s 2018 self-released album.
“We funded that record and put it out because we wanted to do something without anyone’s influence,” Keifer boasts. “It’s our favorite record to date.”
Thompson Square has continued to perform music in the last several years, aside from the time at home during the pandemic. But their lack of music at radio gave some a false belief that they had gone away — a belief Keifer insists couldn’t be further from the truth.
“People think that if you don’t have a single on the radio that you’ve either died or you’re missing in the woods somewhere,” Keifer acknowledged. “We never have stopped.”
“We never stopped touring, never stopped writing, never stopped recording,” he added. “Just the radio element obviously wasn’t there.”
