Tigirlily Gold Talks Bold New Album, ‘Blonde’ [EXCLUSIVE]

Tigirlily Gold‘s debut album is out now. The sibling duo, made up of sisters Kendra and Krista Slaubaugh, just released Blonde, their first full-length record, a ten-track project that follows Tigirlily’s eponymous EP, which was released in 2021.

It might be Tigirlily Gold’s first record, but rest assured, Kendra and Krista are both seasoned pros at writing and creating music, as well as performing songs live.

“We’ve been a band for over 11 years now, and we finally have our debut album coming out, which is so cool,” Kendra tells Everything Nash. “It’s all about just embracing your inner confidence, your inner sass, that boldness. Being able to poke fun at yourself when life doesn’t go your way. There’s definitely some humor on the album, and then we have the very vulnerable moments as well. So we’re excited. There’s a song for everybody; every song has a different take on life on the album, and it sounds a little bit different as well.”

Blonde runs a wide spectrum of songs, including their debut single, “Shoot Tequila,” plus their current single, “I Tried A Ring On,” a cover of Leona Lewis’ 2007 hit, “Bleeding Love,” and more. The record shows a depth and maturity not often found in a freshman record.

“We have been doing this a long time. We’ve put a lot of hours in, we’ve written a lot of songs to get to this point,” Kendra concedes. “So I do really hope people hear this: it doesn’t feel like we just started yesterday. I know a lot of people are brand-new to us, and hearing us for the first time. But when they hear the music, I hope they hear that it’s mature, it’s confident, it’s well-written.

“We didn’t just start writing songs yesterday,” she continues. “We’ve been a band for over ten years, and while yes, this is our official debut record off of our first record deal that we’ve signed, we’ve been making music for a long time, and playing music for a long time together.”

Tigirlily Gold poured so much hard work into Blonde, making it a bit redemptive that the project is finally released.

“it feels so, so good, honestly,” Kendra says. “We’re just so excited. It’s so fun. We’ve had these songs. We’ve been listening to them. We know them like the back of our hands. But to see fans’ reactions to them for the first time is the best feeling in the world. It’s the coolest feeling in the world to see them singing these songs at shows. It’s just the best. And seeing how they connect to certain songs in different ways. It’s so cool.

“We’re so excited to finally have it out,” she adds. “We’re already thinking about what record No. 2 is gonna sound like, but trying to never stop creating, and really sit in the moment of, we worked so hard to put this record together. We love it so much. It is truly ours.”
