New music is coming from Tim McGraw! The singer just announced he will release “I Called Mama” on May 8, just in time for Mother’s Day. But more than just the holiday, Tim finds the song especially timely during the coronavirus pandemic.
“On the one hand this song is literally, ‘Hey, call your mom,'” Tim said in a statement about the song, which was written by Marv Green, Lance Miller and Jimmy Year. “On the other hand, you look at a time like this, there are real hardships for everyone, and it’s a great reminder that hearing someone’s voice who knows you and loves you can help you get through anything.
“I think it’s at these very difficult times that music can help and the power of a song can give someone a moment of clarity or comfort, or just a smile,” he continued. Especially now, when we seem to need it more than ever.”
A lyric video will be released along with “I Called Mama,” sharing never-before-seen footage of Tim as a baby with his own mother, Betty D’Agostino. A separate video, with fan-submitted footage and photos of their mothers will be released at a later date.
“Mothers definitely deserve to be honored more than one day a year,” Tim explained. “We’ve have had such an incredible response of people sharing their special Mama videos, we are going to get you something really special in a few weeks.”
Tim is the son of Betty and the late Tug McGraw, although he was raised by Betty and his stepfather, Horace Smith.
“I Called Mama” will be Tim’s first release since returning to Big Machine Records. A full-length album has yet to be announced. Pre-order “I Called Mama” at TimMcGraw.com.
