Tim McGraw has a new song, out now. The Louisiana native just released “People Like Us,” written by Scooter Carusoe and Tom Douglas.
When McGraw released the song, he explained why it was important to him, now more than ever.
“Today, I’m releasing a new song called ‘People Like Us,'” McGraw says. “It’s a celebration of our shared journey through life. We all have unique paths, but at our core, we’re connected by the same hopes, dreams, and challenges that make us human. For me, this song is about seeing ourselves in others – recognizing our common experiences of joy, pain, triumph, and struggle.
“My hope is that when you listen, you’ll feel that connection and be reminded of the beauty in our shared humanity,” he continues. “Music has a way of touching our hearts and bringing us together. Let’s keep lifting each other up and moving forward as one human family.”
“People Like Us” comes as McGraw is enjoying a hit single at radio with “One Bad Habit.” The song, from his surprise Poet’s Resumé EP, out in 2023, was written by Marc Beeson, Aaron Eshuis and Tony Lane.
“I love that record,” McGraw says on the Eden and Amadeus podcast. “It was one of those records that was interesting when we went into the studio. I loved the song. I was trying to figure out what to do with it because the demo was way different than the record we ended up making. It was slower and a whole different sort of arrangement. And we went and sort of dug in deep on that song because we felt like it was a really great song.”
“One Bad Habit” could be McGraw’s 47th No. 1 hit. It’s a milestone that, although substantial, is less important to McGraw than the plans he has in the future.
“I hear about it from my management; they tell me that this happened or that happened,” McGraw says on Country Countdown USA. “I’m like, what’s next? I’m always looking forward. I don’t look back. I figure when I’m sitting in my rocking chair, maybe I’ll reflect. But I’m not good at reflecting. I still feel like I got a lot more in me.”
McGraw and his wife Faith Hill recently celebrated 28 years of marriage. An impressive success story, the 57-year-old insists he, and their marriage, is still a work in progress.
“I am not an expert,” McGraw tells his record label. “I don’t think anybody is. Marriage is — any relationship’s tough if you don’t cultivate it, and certainly if you’re not committed to it. Love and respect are always important, but I think that knowing that there’s gonna be tough times and knowing there’s gonna be times where you don’t like each other as much, all those things are gonna happen.
“I think that it’s knowing those things are gonna be there,” he adds. “Still knowing that you’re gonna get through the other side of it and you want to be together, and this is what you want your life to look like, I think is the important thing.”
