Tim McGraw just kicked off his McGraw Tour 2022, where he is joined by veteran country artist Russell Dickerson, as well as newcomers Alexandra Kay and Brandon Davis. The 55-year-old found them both by watching them perform covers on TikTok, and was instantly blown away by their talent, ultimately inviting both of them to join him on the road.
“It was pretty cool running across Alexandra and Brandon Davis,” McGraw tells USA Today. “During COVID, artists didn’t get a chance to get their music out. They were doing cool, innovative ways of getting music out there and getting themselves known. For me, it’s always cool when you take someone who has never been on a big tour before. You get to watch as they step out on stage in front of 30,000 people and feel that energy. Seeing their faces as they’re walking off the stage is so rewarding to me. I remember that feeling when I was a young artist.”
McGraw might also be joined by another stellar singer, namely his wife Faith Hill, for at least some of the dates on The McGraw Tour 2022, but likely not all of them.
“She’ll be hanging out on tour, for sure,” McGraw hints. “We spend, gosh, 98 percent of our time together. We’re homebodies and we’re empty nesters with our three daughters. We were joking the other night as we were hanging out watching TV that it kinda feels like we’re kids with the parents gone now. So she’ll probably enjoy a little break from me.”
McGraw previously said he was grateful both Kay and Davis agreed to join him on his McGraw Tour 2022, especially at the start of their career.
“They were doing great covers and some originals and I thought it was a great opportunity for them,” McGraw told Pollstar. “I also thought that they brought a lot of new energy and they’re both very positive people. Together with Russell Dickerson, who has had a bunch of No. 1s and brings such a fun show – I thought they would all fit our tour perfectly.”
McGraw and Hill just wrapped filming 1883, which is how he now has the time to tour. But the Louisiana native says performing songs night after night might not be as easy as it used to be.
“After having that script in my head and now I’m working on a new album as well, the toughest thing is probably going to be remembering the words when we get on stage,” McGraw admits. “But I feel like it will come back quickly.”
