Tim McGraw Shares Details Of His New Album, ‘Standing Room Only’

Tim McGraw can’t wait to share his new album with the world. The 55-year-old just released “Standing Room Only,” a song that he says is “positive and life-affirming.” Fortunately, McGraw promises that the rest of the record will also have plenty of feel-good songs as well.

“There are so many great songs that we have for this thing,” McGraw hints on Audacy’s Katie & Company. “There are a couple of really life-affirming songs that I can’t wait for everybody to hear. One called ‘Letter From Heaven’ that really just tears me up every time I hear it. You’re gonna have to have a Kleenex for that one. But there are some fun songs too.”

McGraw promises to have positive but serious songs on the record, as well as some lighthearted ones.

“There are some really good, sort of throwback country things on this that I really enjoy doing, and got into my George Strait vein a little bit,” he says. “There’s a good mixture of stuff. I always try to do that with every album. I never want to just have one style of song on the album. I want to give you sort of a smorgasbord to choose from.”

“Standing Room Only” is the title track of his next set of tunes. Before he finalized songs on the record, he played them all for the person that means the most to him: his wife, Faith Hill.

“Faith is always my first set of ears that hears everything,” McGraw reveals, adding that he also plays songs for his daughters as well, even if the response isn’t as positive. “They’ll tell me when they don’t like it. And we don’t always agree. And Faith and I don’t always agree either on songs, but she’s always a great sounding board.”

The Louisiana native says that the video for “Standing Room Only” will also tell the story behind the song, in a powerful way.

“The video’s going to be really cool,” McGraw says. “I can’t wait to see some of the footage. We just shot it a couple of days ago, and I think it’s going to be really cool. It’s  very metaphoric in a lot of ways, about life and shedding some of the ghosts of the past, and looking forward to the future.”
