Tim McGraw and his wife, Faith Hill, currently only have one daughter at home –– their youngest, 18-year-old Audrey. 21-year-old Maggie was home with her parents, when the self-isolation began because of coronavirus, but has since moved out, while 23-year-old Gracie lives in California. Still, the proud father stays in close contact with all three of them, even when they are away from home.
“Our daughters call us all the time,” Tim told CMT‘s Cody Alan. “They call us three or four times a day. So we’re always talking to them. Maggie’s working with Feed the Frontline; she’s been working with those guys, so I’m getting calls from her every day, telling me more about that. She’s graduating in June, which they don’t have a formal graduation, and then she’s going into her Master’s program.
“So she’s been talking to us a lot about what classes to take and what she’s going to do in her Master’s program,” he continued. “Gracie’s in LA, working on being an actress … She calls all the time as well, and she’s isolated herself in her place there.”
Tim previously praised the graduates who are missing the usual celebrations due to COVID-19, which this year includes his two youngest children.
“We had a drive-thru graduation for Audrey, where we drove through campus, which was really cool,” Tim said on the Today Show. “Maggie graduated but didn’t have a graduation as well. We were together a little bit. We haven’t all been together during this time, but some of us have been together. I feel for all the parents out there, and all the kids, who didn’t have a graduation. But we tried to make it as fun for them as we could.”
Tim just released the emotional video for “I Called Mama,’ his current single. The song, which praises the relationship between mothers and their children, took on an entirely new meaning during the global pandemic, which Tim highlights in the powerful video.
“I was recording this song earlier in the year, before all of this happened,” Tim explained. “It was a great song. It’s a song I love. I love my mom, like everybody loves their mom, and I really wanted to record it. After I recorded it and we got it mixed, then the virus came along, and everybody was talking about it, and everybody went into isolation. It really took on a bigger meaning and a deeper meaning to us. That’s why we released it.
“It just happened to be around Mother’s Day,” he continued. “But the main reason was because it just felt like what I’ve been doing and everybody’s been doing, just sitting at home and having comfort food all the time. This song felt like comfort food for your soul, in a lot of ways.”
