The Tennessee Titans inked a new deal with Derrick Henry, after a lengthy negotiation process, with the Florida native now staying with the Titans for at least four more years.
“I just want to go out there and be the best player I can be, the best teammate I can be,” Derrick said (via the Titans website). “I want to go out there and play at a high level. God has blessed me and my family tremendously, and I am thankful for this opportunity. I am thankful to the Titans organization for getting this done. I want to go out there and prove my worth and continue to get better.”
Derrick was originally drafted by the Titans in 2016. His new contract is a four-year, $50 million contract, with $25.5 million in guaranteed money.
“I am very excited, and happy the process if over with … and now the focus is getting back to football and hopefully getting together (for training camp) at the end of this month,” Derrick said of the negotiations. “I didn’t have any doubt at all. It was just a matter of time before we could come (to an agreement) where we’d both be happy and I’m glad we were able to do that. We came to a common ground where both of us could be happy.”
The 26-year-old ranked third in the NFL with 18 touchdowns in 2019, and he looks forward to doing even more in the upcoming season.
“I hope we can just build on the momentum, the good things that we did (last season),” Derrick acknowledged. “And we need to work on things so we can be better than we were last season.”
In addition to having a new contract, Derrick also has a new daughter, Valentina Allure, born in May.
“It’s a different feeling you can’t describe when you are looking at your child,” Derrick boasted. “My daughter, she is so beautiful. Every day I look at her, that is all the motivation I need. I have to go hard for her each and every day. When I am training, doing anything else, I am doing it all for her.”
According to AL.com, Derrick’s new payday ranks him third in the NFL, following the $22.235 million deal with the Carolina Panthers’ Christian McCaffrey, and the $19.8 million with the Dallas Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliott.
