Trace Adkins Drops New Song, ‘What Color’s Your Wild’ [LISTEN]

Trace Adkins is back! The 63-year-old just released a new song, “What Color’s Your Wild.” The song, written by Monty Criswell and Casey Beathard, is being released on Verge Records.

The song says in part, “What color’s your wild / What cranks the dial on your radio / What moves your needle, baby /  What makes your speakers blow / What makes you crazy like a loving life, sugar high child / What color’s your wild.”

Adkins will have plenty of chances to perform the song over the next several weeks. He is currently on the road with Blake Shelton, serving as the opening act on Shelton’s Friends &  Heroes Tour. Close friends for many, many years, Adkins still says this one thing bugs him about Shelton, and likely always will.

“With Blake, to have a close friend that’s in the same business that you’re in, and we can talk about that with each other.” Adkins tells CMT. “Blake, he shares a little too much, a lot. [He’s a] horrible over-sharer … He shares too much to everybody.”

Adkins and Shelton are more than just touring partners, and sometimes duet partners. The two are also proud Grand Ole Opry members. It was Adkins who inducted Shelton into the Grand Ole Opry in 2010.

“I’ve never had a bad experience when I’ve come to the Grand Ole Opry, ever,” Adkins said to Everything Nash. “Whether we were here, whether we were at the Ryman, it doesn’t matter. It’s always been a positive experience for me, and I’ve always just loved the family reunion kind of atmosphere and environment backstage.

“Everybody’s dressing room is open, everybody’s just hanging out with each other,” he continues. “No other genre of music has anything like it. I don’t think people really understand that, how special this is to country music. It’s something that nobody else has.”

Of all of the accolades Adkins has received over the years, of which there are many, the accomplishment that he is most proud of is his Grand Ole Opry membership.

“It still is just as, if not more, important than it ever was,” Adkins previously told Everything Nash. “I love it. People ask me if I look back on my career, what’s at the top of my list of achievements? Being a member of the Grand Ole Opry is in the top five spots. And it’s weird because I didn’t do anything to deserve that. It wasn’t something that I achieved. It was just something that, for some reason, somebody bestowed this honor onto me. I didn’t do anything to really deserve it, but I’m so grateful and thankful.

“I now always keep that in mind, no matter what I’m doing or where I’m going, that I am a member of the Grand Ole Opry,” he added.  “I’m a representative of that institution and that helps me to conduct myself appropriately.”

Adkins will embark on his What Color’s Your Wild Tour on March 29, shortly after his run with Shelton comes to an end. See a list of dates on Adkins’ upcoming tour below. Find “What Color’s Your Wild” and all of Adkins’ music and upcoming shows at TraceAdkins.com.
