Trisha Yearwood has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Grand Ole Opry member received her star on Monday, March 24, honored wit tributes by both Reba McEntire and Carly Pearce.
“I’m overwhelmed … It’s one of those surreal moments,” Yearwood says during her acceptance speech. “My team, Team TY, who are all here, who I love, we all talk about being where your feet are. And I’m trying to be where my feet are, but it’s very surreal to be here. It’s such an honor. And the thing that makes it so special are the people who are here. I see a lot of faces in the crowd who have been coming to see me live since 1991.”
Yearwood goes on to thank both McEntire and Pearce for their kind words about Yearwood, as part of her ceremony.
“This is all I ever wanted to do is to sing. Carly, your words were so kind,” Yearwood says. “I want to tell you that when I met you for the first time, at a CMT Awards show. I just immediately knew you were genuine. I knew I was going to be your friend. So it’s been my honor to get to know you a little bit. And the person that taught me how to do that was the first artist that was so kind to me at an award show, and that was Reba McEntire, who just exemplifies friendship and class. She sent me flowers at my first award show when no one even knew I was in the dressing room and I thought they were from my mom and dad. And then I saw that they were from Reba and I’m like, ‘Oh, okay.’
“And I am so blessed that you and I have become more than just colleagues that get to see each other, but friends that get to hang out,” she continues. “There’s a misconception that female artists in particular are always climbing at each other, and trying to get at each other. But the truth is, we’re all cheering for each other and with each other. This is an example of that. These girls, from every generation of country music, we’re all for each other.”
Yearwood also thanks her employees, her family, and her longtime producer, Garth Fundis, before closing by acknowledging her husband, Garth Brooks.
“The first Garth that I met is here, and the one that has really been a cheerleader, and who, as many accolades and awards as he has won, I’ve never seen him get more excited than he does when I receive something,” Yearwood says. “For all the people that want this for me, nobody wants it more than you. And I just appreciate you for being my support. We’re down a few stars from each other, but we’re gonna figure out something. We’ll put some breadcrumbs or something … I’m overwhelmed honestly.”
Yearwood is releasing an album of songs she wrote later this year. She will also tour in support of the record. Find more information at TrishaYearwood.com.
