Trisha Yearwood will officially flip the switch at the Grand Ole Opry on October 14, to serve as the kick-off for the annual Opry Goes Pink event, which partners with Susan G. Komen in the fight against breast cancer.
“We all have friends and family members who are battling, have won, and those who have lost their fights against breast cancer,” Yearwood says. “Everyone who knows me knows how important this cause is to me, in particular prevention, yearly screenings, early detection, and research for effective treatments and cures. I’m honored to flip the switch and join the Grand Ole Opry in spreading information and love during Breast Cancer Awareness month.”
Yearwood has a new chapter in front of her, now that her husband, Garth Brooks, has ended his Stadium Tour, and he vows to support his wife in whatever she wants to do now.
“Here’s a spoiler alert,” Brooks said to CMT. “How about being married to someone who has more Grammys than you do? Then you say, ‘What is her future, and how do I be a mate to her and whatever she wants to do?’ She’s kind of in the same place in her life where she’ll be starting new chapters. I want her to, without pause or hesitation to go, ‘I want to do this.’ Then my job is to be her love and her support.”
Yearwood might have put some of her own ambitions aside to support her husband, but she insists that it was her choice alone to follow him on the road.
“We were both married before, and so we thought if we’re going to be together, let’s not get married to be together and then be apart,” Yearwood told SheKnows. “That means sometimes you don’t get to do things you want to do because I would love to go do this movie or that project, but I’d be gone for two weeks and he can’t go so that’s just not an option.”
$5 from every ticket sold will go towards the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Yearwood will also perform for the night, along with The Oak Ridge Boys, Mandy Barnett, Easton Corbin, and Miko Marks, who is making her Grand Ole Opry debut. Find more information at Opry.com.
