Tyler Hubbard and his wife, Hayley, tied the knot in 2015, two years after they began dating. By the time they said “I do,” Hubbard was already fully immersed in his country music career, as one-half of the Florida Georgia Line duo. But the father of three says it’s Hayley who deserves much of the credit for his success, including the recent launch of his solo career, after spending a decade as part of an award-winning duo.
“She’s a rock. She’s so supportive, and so selfless,” Hubbard gushed to Everything Nash during a virtual media event. “I know it takes a lot. I never want to underestimate what it takes for a spouse to just be fully supportive. It’s never about her. It’s always about my dream. And it’s just so special. I’m so thankful. And she loves it, too. She loves being on the road. She loves to travel. She loves the music, and she’s not afraid to tell me her opinion.”
In fact, Hubbard counts on his wife for almost everything, including her advice and input on the songs he releases.
“She’s also someone that I bounce songs off of,” Hubbard reveals. “She’s in the small circle of people that I know will give me honest feedback. I really respect her ear and I respect her, and her business mind as well. So I bounce a lot of things off her for sure. She’s a big part of my support system that I have, and I’m really thankful for her, and love having her out on the road. She’s been a part of my world since 2013. We were still pretty rough. We were kind of roughing it even when she first started tagging along. So it’s really nice just to have her there and get to see her most nights, and know that she’s a big part of why I’m even here in the first place.”
Hubbard honored Hayley with his debut single as a solo artist, “5 Foot 9,” even if he did get one detail incorrect.
“I’ve got to be honest. I have a confession. I missed it by an inch,” Hubbard admitted. “She’s actually 5 foot 10 inches. I went home at night and said, ‘Babe, remind me again how tall you are exactly. You’re about 5 foo 9?’ She said ‘5 foot 10 inches.’ And I said, ‘Well, here’s a new song I wrote today. I’m sorry I cut you short by an inch, but I hope you like it.’”
Hubbard is spending the next several weeks on the road, serving as the opening act, along with Ingrid Andress, on Keith Urban‘s The Speed of Now World Tour. Find music and tour dates at TylerHubbardOfficial.com.
