Vince Gill Calls His Grandchildren the ‘Complete Light of My Life’

Vince Gill and his wife, Amy Grant, love being parents, but they especially love being grandparents. Vince recently opened up about his role in his children’s lives, and why he enjoys being a grandfather most of all.

“We’ve got five kids, a couple of grandkids. These grandkids are the complete light of my life. They show up and the rest of the world can kiss my you-know-what,” Vince shared with his record label with a laugh. “I say we’re just gonna go swing in the backyard, we’re gonna wrestle on the bed, we’re gonna eat those Goldfish, you know? And nothing else kinda seems to matter.

“Then I think what I love seeing more than anything is for my kid to finally understand what it means to love,” he continued. “Man, it’s awesome to see my kid finally get it, what that unconditional love really looks like and feels like.”

Vince has likely been taking care of Amy for the last few weeks, while she recovers from heart surgery she had earlier in the month to correct a heart defect she had since birth.

“I know there is so much going on in the world right now,” Amy said in a post shared on social media, along with a few photos of her recovery. “This is a crazy, broken, yet beautiful time. And in the midst of all of that – in the midst of all of our awareness and becoming and learning to love and see each other – I’ve had this really unique experience of having an unanticipated open heart surgery. The only way I can explain my experience would be to ask you to imagine a non-runner who was signed up for a marathon. I didn’t want it, but I had to have it anyway and it was a week ago Wednesday. And as people heard about the surgery I started getting messages: ‘I’m praying for you …’I’m praying for you.’ People I worked with decades ago, people who have come to my concerts or listen to my music, my work family, people on social media, and my own friends and family all offered their prayers.”

“From the moment I went to the hospital, if it really were a marathon race, I felt like I got into that runner’s block and as soon as it was time for the race to start there was this massive West Texas wind at my back.. just pushing me through,” she continued. “Even stuff I was really scared about felt like nothing more than just a deep breath and something supernatural pushed me through it. My recovery has honestly felt miraculous. And so I want to say thank you to each person who said a prayer for me. Prayer changes everything. Let’s keep those prayers going for our country and let’s turn all the brokenness into love and seeing each other. I love you. Amy”

Vince and Amy wed in 2000. Vince had one child when they got married, and Amy had three. In 2001, they had one child, Corrina, together.
