Vince Gill and Amy Grant‘s daughter, Corrina Grant Gill, is understandably a talented singer, but that doesn’t mean she wants advice from her parents, especially her famous father. The Country Music Hall of Fame member reveals the 22-year-old rarely asks him for advice, about anything related to her promising music career.
“I just love that she’s finding her own way,” Gill says (via Taste of Country). “I’m always here with advice if she wants it. Occasionally she does, but it’s very seldom, and it’s fun to watch her figure it out. It’s fun for her to make connections with the people she makes connections with, who she’s chosen to make a record with and all that.”
Corrina, who sang “When My Mama Prays” at the Ryman Auditorium during Gill’s four-night residency at the sacred venue last year, has already earned her proud dad’s respect and admiration, even at a young age.
“She’s a smart kid,” Gill boasts. “She’s all about it. I would’ve given anything if I could sing as good as she does now — when I was 22, I didn’t sing that good.”
Gill may not get a lot of questions from his youngest child, but he remains her biggest supporter, ready to help if and when she ever asks.
“Some people would say to me, ‘You wouldn’t want your kid to go into the same business you’ve been in, would you?'” Gill shares. “And I would say, ‘Hell, I’ve had a great life.’ I wouldn’t trade places with a living soul on this earth. So I would wish that for my kid all day long.”
Corrina may not ask her dad for advice, but he has been instrumental in helping several acts get started over the years. For the 66-year-old, he is always willing to dispel advice, but only if he’s asked.
“I’m always hopeful it’ll strike something for someone,” Gill says. “That’s what music’s always been, a conversation,” he notes. “When people give you the opportunity to have a conversation come back to you, it’s the best feeling in the world.”
Corrina’s performance at the Ryman last year came shortly after her mother was seriously injured in a bike accident. The song was originally “When My Amy Prays,” with Gill changing the lyrics so his daughter could sing it.
“We’re going to do this song that I wrote for my wife, Amy,” Gill said from stage. “We haven’t been doing it much, but because of her accident and what she’s going through, I’m thinking a lot about her. I thought how sweet it would be for her youngest to sing a song I wrote for her.”
Corrina’s latest release, “Too Much,” is out now.
