Alexandra Kay received the opportunity of a lifetime, when she found out she was singing a duet, “Leave the Light On,” with her good friend, Jelly Roll, for the upcoming Twisters film. It was Kay’s manager and close friend, Beth Keith, who orchestrated the details, surprising Kay with the news while together with her band.
“I was SHOCKED!” Kay captioned the video.

Indeed, the rising star seemed genuinely in awe that she was going to be part of one of the most talked-about movies of the year.
“Wouldn’t it be crazy for the new Twisters movie if you and Jelly did a duet, and the song’s on my phone, and it’s gonna be on the soundtrack?” her manager asked, as Kay was stunned by the good news.
“I’m gonna be on a Jelly Roll song?” Kay responded, in awe. “On a soundtrack?”
Kay and Jelly Roll’s friendship goes way back, something Kay elaborated on after opening for him last year at the North Dakota State Fair.
“I got to witness this incredible human play to 18,000 people last night,” Kay shared on social media. “In the midst of his sky rocket to the top he is always reaching out a hand to someone who looks up to him. Last night, and many times before… that hand was extended to me. The words he spoke of me and my career on the stage last night will stay with me forever.. and the opportunity to perform in front of his loyal and dedicated fan base was an absolute honor. Thank you Jelly Roll and ND State Fair for having me!”
Kay was also invited by Jelly Roll to perform with him at the Grand Ole Opry on June 5.

Kay’s debut All I’ve Ever Known album was released last year. The vulnerable and honest record was her own perspective on the end of her marriage to her former husband, Indiana.
“I’m not gonna lie, when I put this record out, I was terrified,” Kay conceded on Joel Madden’s Artist Friendly podcast. “I was like, ‘There’s gonna be some backlash.’ And I think when you’re doing something that’s really gonna help people, or is going to make a difference in any way, it feels really scary. And so, I felt like how terrified I am to put this out, I really need to make sure that it goes out.”
Other artists appearing on the soundtrack for Twisters include Kane Brown, Shania Twain, Thomas Rhett, Megan Moroney, Lainey Wilson and many more.
Kay is currently on her All I’ve Ever Known: The Tour Chapter Two. She will also serve as the opening act for Jelly Roll, on his Beautifully Broken Tour. Find all of Kay’s music and upcoming shows at AlexandraKayOfficial.com.
