The Hot Country Knights just performed their current single, “Pick Up Truck” live, virtually from their own homes, on Good Morning America! The ’90s cover band, fronted by Dierks Bentley, was joined by country music icon, Travis Tritt, who sings with them on their debut single. The song is from their just-released new album, The K is Silent.
Dierks, who takes on the character of Doug Douglason in the Hot Country Knights, started the band in part because of his love of ’90s country, but it quickly became a serious, albeit humorous, side project for the award-winning singer.
“I think we try to be real honest with our fans. I think when fans think of the word ‘authentic’ and ‘authenticity,’ they think of bands like the Hot Country Knights, and pretty much no one else,” he said (via PopCulture.com). “A lot of these guys, a lot of country singers right now, they wear these long t-shirts. We want you to see the whole package.
“When you watch us on stage, what you see is what you get,” he continued. “This is what you’re going to get if you want to come see after the show. We don’t hide anything, physically or emotionally, with our fans.”
In many ways, “Pick Up Truck,” which Dierks co-wrote with Jim Beavers and Brett Beavers, became the catalyst for Dierks taking time away from his successful solo career to launch Hot Country Knights.
“I was like, ‘If we’re not pitching this to the Hot Country Knights, then I’m going to take this and cut it myself on my record because this is just great, fun country music,’” Dierks previously told Billboard. “I’m not really sure where to go after doing Riser, then Black and The Mountain. These albums all have these great big themes and I have no idea where to go personally, in my own career, but that song I would have cut and put it on my own record. It was such a fun tune. The Knights loved it, so the Knights got it.”
