We the Kingdom’s debut Holy Water album is out! The record, released on August 7, is a culmination of deeply personal songs written by all five band members, including their breakout hit, “Holy Water.”
“It feels like we’ve been writing these songs for our entire lives,” We the Kingdom’s Franni Cash Cain told Everything Nash. “These songs really tell the story of our lives and all of the different emotions that come from the high points and the low points, the sadness, the pain, the hardship, the joy, the gladness, the excitement. It’s very vulnerable, very real. It’s been cool to see how these songs feel like gifts from God that have played the soundtrack to our lives. We really hope that they connect with our listeners and that they help people feel love, no matter where they are in life or who they are.”
With five members in We the Kingdom, the song selection process was understandably challenging, especially after the massive success of “Holy Water,” which was originally on their debut Live at the Wheelhouse EP.
“Narrowing down songs was actually very difficult,” Franni admitted. “We have been writing songs together for about three years, but before we had collectively written songs of the five of us, each one of us I think had written together just two at a time. We’d never written one all five of us before our first song that started our band, but we’d written together and so there was a lot of– there’s a lot of different songs in our catalog that we love and have become the anthems for our family or our church and our friends and all of that, and so pulling from all of that was really difficult.
“I think we landed with songs we felt the most peace of how they connected with each other to tell the story of one record,” she added. “But we’re really excited for record two because we’ve already started writing for it.”
We the Kingdom scored a No. 1 single with “Holy Water,” as well as four GMA Dove Awards nominations, for Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year, for Live at the Wheelhouse, Song of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year, for “Holy Water,” and New Artist of the Year.
“We’re so overwhelmed that people would want to listen to our music, that people would feel like they want to listen to the songs that we write in a basement,” Franni acknowledged. “That is just a bizarre thing, and we’re really grateful for that. I also hope that our music can reach beyond the borders of the church and be able to reach people in other stages of life. In the process of life, I hope that everyone who listens to this record will feel loved and will feel like they are dear to the heart of God. So I am excited about different types of people being able to feel hope when they listen to our music.”
All the members of We the Kingdom are grateful that their music is resonating so well, mostly because their message is one that they want to continue to share with the world for a long, long time.
“It really is so overwhelming that people would want to listen,” Franni remarked. “I’m just glad that we have been able to do something that connects with a lot of people, because it feels very unifying. And that’s the heart behind our band name, We the Kingdom, is that all of us – not just the five of us – would feel like we belong, no matter who we are, in God’s heart and so I’m thankful that our songs have been able to do that. Now we’re getting to see that people are connecting and finding familiarity with each other and with these songs, and that’s beautiful.”
