New music is coming from Wynonna Judd! The singer announces a new EP, Recollections, will be released in October. The record includes covers of some of the singer’s favorite songs, including “I Hear You Knocking” by Fats Domino, “Angel From Montgomery” by John Prine and more.
“This EP was a labor of love without the labor,” Wynonna said in a statement. “As a songwriter, you can get bogged down in your own craft sometimes, but there’s something so liberating about letting go of all that and just inhabiting someone else’s writing.”
Wynonna and her husband, Cactus Moser, who engineered and produced the project, recorded Recollections while they were both at home during the coronavirus pandemic.
“I’ve learned a lot being at home these last few months,” Wynonna said. “When there’s no touring, no concerts, no band, no lights, no action; all that’s left is you and the song. All that’s left is your gift. My Recollections EP is the product of that.”
Wynonna spent several years as one-half of the duo, the Judds, with her mother, Naomi Judd, before launching her own solo career in the early ’90s. Since then, the 56-year-old has continued making music, both for major labels and for herself, including on her new label, ANTI-Records.
“I never wanted to be defined by the business side of things, by all the industry accolades and awards,” Wynonna shared. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for all of that, but ultimately, I’ve always just wanted to be defined by my art, and ANTI- lets me do that. It’s like a shelter from the storm, a place where I can go after all these years in the business and make the music I want to make.”
Wynonna will join her mother next year in receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, honoring the success of the Judds. See a complete track list for Recollections below. The record will be released on October 30. It is currently available for pre-order via her website.
