Wynonna Judd is extending The Judds: The Final Tour, due to fan demand. Wynonna planned to embark on the farewell tour with her mother, Naomi Judd, who passed away on April 30. Wynonna later announced she would fulfill the dates on the Final Tour, as a tribute to her mother. The tour, which was originally scheduled to end on October 29 in Lexington, Kentucky, is now extending into 2023, with Ashley McBryde, Brandi Carlile, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town and Martina McBride all returning as a rotating list of opening acts for the new dates.
“I have never felt so overwhelmed by this much love and support!,” Wynonna says. “The emotions that flow while listening to the different generations of fans sing back to me each night has been other-worldly. I am so humbled by every artist that has come to sing with me on this tour. They’ve all managed to bring something so unique to The Judds music and I can say that no two shows are the same. It has been so life-giving!
“The decision to add 15 more shows was a no-brainer for me,” she continues. “The fans have been such a gift during my time of grieving and honoring my mother in song. What an amazing season this is. I look so forward to continuing the celebration of the music that has changed my life forever. In my 39 years of performing, these shows have truly been some of my absolute favorite experiences ever and I look forward to making new memories with the fans and guest artists in 2023.”
Naomi passed away one day before The Judds’induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Two weeks later, at Naomi Judd: A River of Time Celebration, a public memorial for Naomi, Wynonna announced the tour would continue, even without her mother.
“I miss her so much. But I will continue to sing. I said I would and I will,” Wynonna shared from stage. “So I’ve made a decision, and I thought I’d share it on national television that, after a lot of thought, I’m gonna have to honor her and do this tour. I’m just gonna have to, ’cause that’s what you would want. Bono once told me, give them what they want, not what you want … So tonight as we close, I say, the show must go on, as hard as it may be. We will show up together, and you will carry me as you’ve carried me for 38 years once again, because I honestly didn’t think I could do it. I didn’t know if I could go on without her. Life is so strange … So we will continue this spectacle. That’s what she would want, right?”
