Wynonna Judd is celebrating her first two solo albums with a major tour. The 59-year-old announces her headlining Back to Wy Tour, performing songs from her first two solo albums, both Wynonna, released in 1992, and Tell Me Why, out in 1993. Judd will perform each of the records, track by track, front to back, followed by a finale of her other hits along with several of The Judds’ classics.
“Getting to share this tour with the fans who have been with me for 40 years, means the world to me,” Judd says. “Deep diving into my first two solo albums, Wynonna and Tell Me Why, track by track, will be a trip down memory lane. As I sit and listen to these two records, I’m flooded with the memories that surrounded that time in my life. The fans held me up and supported me through that season of change in 1992, and I now see ‘herstory’ repeating itself. This music healed me then and is healing me now. The circle of life continues…”
Judd’s new tour comes on the heels of her extended The Judds: The Final Tour, which she carried on after her mother, Naomi Judd, passed away. Judd first launched her solo career after The Judds disbanded in 1991 amid Naomi’s health challenges, after she was diagnosed with Hepatitis C.
“[At the time], I was coming out of years on the road with my mom, and I just think back to that period in my life when I was by myself feeling all the feelings that one feels when you move away from home and go to college,” Judd tells People. “You’re out on your own and all of a sudden you don’t have the comforts of home. I went through that professionally as well as personally.”
The Back to Wy Tour will perform in theaters in 15 cities across the country, allowing the Country Music Hall of Fame member to have an intimate experience with her fans, something she has been craving.
“I’ve been on the road since 19 and ’83. So you do the math — and touring is one of my absolute favorite things to do,” Judd says. “Coming out of The Judds tribute tour, for me, it was time to get back to the intimacy again. It’s years celebrating not only being in country music for 40 years, but me as a soloist — I have so much to celebrate.”
The Back to Wy Tour kicks off on October 26, one day before the A Tribute To The Judds album is released. The record features artists like Jelly Roll, Dolly Parton, Lainey Wilson, Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, Ashley McBryde, Gabby Barrett, Jamey Johnson, Carly Pearce, Cody Johnson and more. Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani just released “Love Is Alive” from the record. Pre-order of the project is available here.
