Zac Brown has never had as much time at home with his five children as he has now. The frontman of the Zac Brown Band is off the road because of coronavirus, and while the time off has been costly in many ways –– resulting in him laying off much of his touring crew –– he is cherishing the time at home with his family.
“I’ve been grinding for 22 years without taking a break,” Zac acknowledged to People. “I put my kids first always, and I put them first when I’m making my schedule, but it’s kind of erratic. So to be home and just be really super present and consistent with my kids has been great for them and it’s been great for me,”
Zac shares his children with his ex-wife, Shelly. The two amicably got divorced in 2018, but Zac remains her biggest cheerleader and fan.
“I couldn’t have a more amazing mom for them,” Zac boasts. “They’re our first priority and they’ve got steadiness and love from both sides. Our kids are a product of all the love and time we give them.”
There’s no word yet when the Zac Brown Band will be able to hit the road again, but until then, the 41-year-old is soaking up every minute with them, and the time they get to spend on his sprawling Georgia property.
“I feel the best when I’ve gotten them to bed and that all five of them have had the best day I could provide for them,” Zac said. “Maybe they learned something or maybe they feel a little closer as a unit together. When they’re happy and secure, there’s nothing more important than that.”
